Cornbread, Northern Style

1 cup Cornmeal (if Self-Rising, omit Baking Powder and 1/2 tsp Salt)
1 cup All Purpose Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
3/4 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Sugar
2 Eggs, beaten
1 cup Buttermilk
2 Tbsp Butter, softened
1 cup Milk


  • Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  • Grease a 6″ x 12″ brownie pan and dust with extra Cornmeal.
  • In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients and make a well.
  • Add the Eggs, Butter, Buttermilk and Milk, incorporating until there are no lumps.
  • Pour the Cornbread batter into the pan.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
