Chocolate Cake

3/4 cup Water, boiling
3 oz unsweetened Dark Chocolate
2 1/4 cups Cake Flour, sifted
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
2/3 cup Butter
1 1/2 cups Brown Sugar, firmly packed
2 tsp Vanilla
3 Eggs, beaten
3/4 cup Buttermilk


  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium bowl, combine Water and Chocolate, stirring until thick. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, and Salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream Butter, Sugar, and Vanilla until creamy and smooth.
  • Add Eggs to Butter mixture, and beat until fluffy.
  • Add melted chocolate to mixture.
  • Add 1/3 sifted Dry Ingredients and 1/3 Buttermilk to mixture, beating to combine.
  • Repeat until all Ingredients added and incorporated.
  • Pour into 2 greased 8″ or 9″ round cake pans.
  • Bake for about 35-40 minutes.
  • Let cool before frosting.

Suggested Frosting: Buttercream.
